This topic will cover the overview and devlopment of halal industry, which not only related to food but matters such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, clothing, business ethics, Islamic finance, banking and insurance, entertainment, hospitality and healthcare as well as to list but a few. All are components of the modern halal lifestyle within the halal (permissible) ecosystem. Giving the growing demand and suppliy complexity, Prof Irwandi highlighted the importance and necessity of halal scinces. Although it is a relatively new branch of knowledge, it combines applications of various disciplines in resolving issues related to halal product and Shari’ah compliant services. Amongst others, the multi discipline nature of Halal science comprises hard sciences; such as chemistry, biology, biochemistry, food science and technology, biotechnology, physics, engineering, and soft sciences; such as economics, management, banking and finance.

Complexity in food processing, halal fod aldulterations issues, challenges in halal food authentication and examples of how modern science techniques can be used to detect trace of non halal elements and adulteration in halal food.
